Install Mesh
Install Mesh with one command and connect your AI tool.
Mesh installs with one command. No account is needed.
macOS and Linux
For macOS 13 or newer on Apple silicon or Intel, and for Ubuntu 24.04-compatible Linux x86_64:
curl -fsSL https://mesh.skilak.ai/install.sh | sh
The script picks the right build for your computer and verifies its checksum before installing. Run it from your usual account.
If your terminal says
command not found: smesh, run this once, then try again:echo 'export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"' >> ~/.zprofile && exec zsh -l(bash on Linux: use
~/.bashrcandexec bash -l.)
Windows
For Windows 11 x86_64, in PowerShell:
irm https://mesh.skilak.ai/install.ps1 | iex
The script verifies the download before installing. If it updates your PATH, open a new PowerShell window before running smesh.
You can download and read either script from the same address before running it.
Set up
smesh init
smesh start
smesh status
smesh init walks you through the terms, your policy, and your AI tools, then starts Mesh. Balanced is the default policy: it replaces detected values with placeholders such as [REDACTED:pii_ssn] and keeps you working. To use the Strict policy instead, run smesh policy use strict.
Connect your AI tool
| Client | Command |
|---|---|
| Claude Code | smesh client connect claude --apply |
| Codex CLI and Codex in VS Code | smesh client connect codex --apply |
Codex CLI and Codex in VS Code share one configuration, so one command connects both. Codex works with an API key or a ChatGPT sign-in. Quit and reopen the tool after connecting so it picks up the new settings.
